Why Split Text at All?
Systems love limits. An API rejects payloads over N characters. A translation tool charges per 5,000-character block. A form field silently truncates your input. A database column caps at a fixed length. Every one of those situations asks the same question: how do I cut this text into valid pieces without breaking words, losing data, or doing arithmetic by hand? Our Text Splitter answers it three ways β split by any delimiter, split at a fixed character length, or divide the text into exactly N near-equal parts β and numbers every chunk with its size so you can verify the cut at a glance.
The Three Modes, Explained
- By delimiter β the standard choice for structured text: commas for CSV fields, pipes for logs, semicolons for lists. Type
\nto split on line breaks or\tfor tabs β the escape sequences are translated for you. Before splitting irregular text, clean it first with the Text Cleaner. - By length β slices the raw string every N characters. Ideal for API payload chunking, SMS segments, and testing fixed-width parsers.
- Into N parts β computes the chunk size as
ceil(total Γ· N), producing exactly the number of pieces you asked for, each as even as possible. Perfect for distributing work across N workers or pages.
Typical Workflows
- CSV cell cleanup: split a wrapped column by comma, then deduplicate the result with our Duplicate Remover.
- List distribution: split by
\n, then interleave across servers with the IP Interleaver for round-robin balancing. - Prompt chunking: cut long documents into model-friendly lengths before summarizing.
Fast, Private, Precise
Splitting is native String.split and slice β linear-time operations that handle megabytes of text without breaking a sweat, entirely inside your browser. Each chunk card shows its exact character count, and the copy button copies only that chunk, so a long list never forces you into error-prone manual selection. Nothing you paste is uploaded anywhere.
